With the support of German cooperation for sustainable development, 115 indigenous territories with a surface area of around 44 million hectares have been demarcated in the Amazon Region. The indigenous peoples were directly involved in the process.

Context With a surface area of 180 million square kilometres, the Pacific makes up around half of the global ocean surface and a third of the earth ’s total surface.

The 22 Pacific island states and territories include more than 200 mountainous volcanic islands and approximately 2,500 flat islands and atolls.

The exclusive economic zones (EEZ or 200-nautical-miles zones) of the five islands involved in this project in the South Pacific – Fiji, Kiribati, Solomon Islands, Tonga and Vanuatu – cover an area of 7.5 million square kilometres, 21 times the size of the Federal Republic of Germany.

Ausgangssituation Mit einer Fläche von 180 Millionen Quadratkilometern nimmt der Pazifik etwa die Hälfte der globalen Meeresoberfläche und ein Drittel der gesamten Erdoberfläche ein.

Zu den 22 pazifischen Inselstaaten und Territorien gehören mehr als 200 gebirgige Vulkaninseln und etwa 2.500 flache Inseln und Atolle.

Die Ausschließlichen Wirtschaftszonen (AWZ oder 200-Meilen-Zonen) der fünf an diesem Projekt beteiligten Länder Fidschi, Kiribati, Salomonen, Tonga und Vanuatu im Südpazifik umfassen 7,5 Millionen Quadratkilometer und somit die 21-fache Fläche der Bundesrepublik Deutschland.

In the Tariquia Reserve in the southern Yungas region, the project is involved in honey production.

The population of the Indigenous Territory of Isiboro Sécure in the tropical lowlands is being advised on the sustainable farming of crocodiles, organic cacao cultivation and municipal forest management.

In the Amazonian Reserve of Manuripi, the main focus of the project is on the sustainable exploitation of natural rubber.

Im Reservat Tariquia in der südlichen Yungas-Region arbeitet das Projekt in der Honigproduktion.

Im indigenen Territorium Isiboro Sécure im tropischen Tiefland wird bei der nachhaltigen Nutzung von Krokodilen, dem biologischen Anbau von Kakao und der kommunalen Waldbewirtschaftung beraten.

Im amazonischen Reservat Manuripi wird insbesondere die Nutzung des Naturkautschuks gefördert.
