I. each [brit. angl. iːtʃ, am. angl. itʃ] DOL. When used as a determiner each is translated by chaque when an object or person is singled out: each document was examined = chaque document a été examiné. Tout/toute and tous les/toutes les are also used to express each and every: each passport must be checked = chaque passeport or tout passeport doit être contrôlé.
When used as a pronoun each (= each one) is almost always translated by chacun/chacune. For examples and exceptions see below.
