Already in 1951, the institute moved from Boltzmannstraße 3 to the Altensteinstraße 40 and in 1973 into the newly opened “ Rostlaube ” ( part of the university ’s main building ).
In 1998, it found its current home in the Koserstraße 20 in a Bauhaus-inspired 1960s building designed by the architects Wassili Luckhardt and Hans Joachim Wandelt.
Close to the Geheimes Staatsarchiv Preußischer Kulturbesitz, the location combines classic modern architecture with a view into the green and on the residential villas of the area.
