A CASE OF MISTAKEN IDENTITY beginnt mit dem Monolog einer Frauenstimme, die ein Streitgespräch über die ideologische Fragwürdigkeit der Psychoanalyse rekapituliert.
Im Hauptteil wird die Behandlung Doras, einer jungen Frau mit hysterischen Symptomen, durch Sigmund Freud nach dessen 1905 publizierter Fallstudie rekonstruiert.

A CASE OF MISTAKEN IDENTITY begins with a female monologue summarizing the debate around the ideologically dubious nature of psychoanalysis.
The main part of the film consists of a reconstruction of Sigmund Freud ’ s treatment of Dora, a young woman with symptoms of hysteria, based on the case study published by him in 1905.
