Im September 2011 erfolgte nach Präsidentschaftswahlen ein friedlicher Machtwechsel vom Movement for Multiparty Democracy, das zuvor etwa 20 Jahre lang regiert hatte, hin zu Präsident Satas Patriotic Front.
Auch wenn Sambia über eine bemerkenswerte demokratische Tradition verfügt, sind die Möglichkeiten der Zivilgesellschaft eher gering, an der Entscheidungsfindung über gesellschaftliche und politische Fragen teilzuhaben sowie Transparenz und Rechenschaft über Regierungs- und Verwaltungshandeln einzufordern.

Following the presidential elections, in September 2011 power was peacefully transferred from the Movement for Multiparty Democracy, which had ruled for about 20 years, to President Sata ’ s Patriotic Front.
Even though Zambia has a remarkable democratic tradition, Zambian civil society has limited options for participating in social and political decision-making, or transparency and accountability concerning government activities and administrative acts.
