Im Forschungsgebiet Radiopharmazie verbinden sich wesentliche Elemente der Kernchemie ( Ermittlung nuklearer Daten, Herstellung von Radioisotopen, radiochemische Trennungen ) und die organisch-präparative Synthese radioaktiv markierter Verbindungen mit der biochemisch, pharmazeutisch und ( nuklear ) -medizinisch motivierten Anwendung der radioaktiv markierten Verbindungen, den Radiopharmaka.
Dabei werden Positronen-emittierende Radioisotope in solche Verbindungen eingeführt, die für die Grundlagenforschung und medizinische Forschung, aber auch in der nuklearmedizinischen Diagnostik zur Diagnose normaler und gestörter biochemischer und physiologischer Prozesse am Menschen eingesetzt werden.
Das Verhalten der Radiopharmaka im menschlichen Körper wird mittels der Positronen-Emissions-Tomogr... (PET) mit hoher Ortsauflösung nicht-invasiv quantifiziert.
