Vater Ernst steigt in der NS-Zeit zum Staatssekretär im Auswärtigen Amt auf und steht als Mitwissender der Judenvernichtung vor dem Nürnberger Kriegsverbrechertribunal.
Als Hilfsverteidiger tritt sein Sohn Richard auf, der 1945 das Studium der Rechtswissenschaft begonnen hat.

His father Ernst rose to the position of permanent secretary in the Foreign Office during the Nazi period and stood trial at the Nuremberg war-crimes tribunal on charges of knowing about the extermination of the Jews.
His son Richard having resumed his law studies in 1945, he then served as a legal assistant on the defence team for his father.
