Die Ausgrabung
Erstes Ziel der syrisch-deutschen Ausgrabungen in Emar war die Erstellung eines topographischen Plans der Ruine, in den auch die nach der Aufstauung des Euphrats noch sichtbaren architektonischen Befunde der französischen Grabungen aufgenommen werden sollten.
Ca. zwei Drittel der ursprünglichen Stadtanlage sind heute überflutet.
