Als 1954 die CIA den demokratisch gewählten Präsidenten Guatemalas stürzte und das Land für Jahrzehnte zu einer “Bananenrepublik” degradierte, geschah dies maßgeblich auf Drängen des US-Konzerns “United Fruit Company”, der sein Geschäft von den anstehenden Landreformen bedroht sah.
