59 des Strafgesetzbuch sieht vor, dass ein / e psychisch gestörte / r Täter / in auf Anordnung des Gerichts in einer spezialisierten und streng gesicherten Therapieabteilung behandelt wird.
Für die zunehmende Anzahl psychisch kranker Delinquenten mangelt es in der Schweiz aber an entsprechenden Anstalten. Laut Experten fehlen mindestens 200 adäquate Therapieplätze.
Als Folge davon werden psychisch kranke Täter/innen meist in normalen Vollzugsanstalten oder Psychiatrien untergebracht.
