Liceo Info
-
- Of the different types of secondary schools in Italy, the liceo is the one which aims to shape the individual, pass on theoretical rather than applied knowledge, and develop the capacities of free judgement and criticism. This reaches its full expression in the most traditional of the licei, the liceo classico, which focuses on the study of classical languages (Latin and Greek). In the more recently introduced liceo scientifico there is an emphasis on mathematics and science as well as Latin and philosophy, which are characteristic of the education in other types of liceo (linguistic, artistic, etc) too. The evolution of Italian schools is leading to technical and business institutes also becoming known as licei.
