- A regional Romance language spoken in Southern Belgium (Wallonie) by approximately 1, 120, 000 Wallons. It belongs to the same linguistic family as the French language, and is sometimes considered a French dialect. Wallon should not be confused with Belgian French, which differs from the French of France in pronunciation and vocabulary only.
